PREFERRED SERVER MAXIOSIZE SHELL CONFIGURATION UPDATE
FOR NETX v3.22 SHELLS
Problem addressed:
There are several statements listed below that are to be added to the
configuration file at the work station and address the problem listed
below.
These statements added to the shell.cfg or net.cfg fix a problem when using
the PREFERRED SERVER option where the PREFERRED SERVER is across a bridge.
The bug causes the shell to use the physical transport size of the first
server attached to, rather than the transport size of the PREFERRED
SERVER. This bug is due to the 1-based vs. 0-based nature of server related
tables in the shell.
This bug is seen as a workstation hang when using the login utility. When
the login is initiated, the preferred server information is updated in the
shell's table. The problem occurs because the maximum packet size
information is not updated to the preferred server packet size, but stays
at the packet size of the first server seen by the workstation.
This fix may also be required if a system slow-down is noticed due to
connecting different topologies since the maximum packet size differs for
various topologies.
Installation:
1- For NETX v3.22 (51201 7-31-91 10:47a) place the following anywhere in the
net.cfg or shell.cfg file:
patch = 49404, 90
patch = 49407, 88
2- For EMSNETX v3.22 (63838 7-31-91 10:49a) place the following anywhere in the
net.cfg or shell.cfg file:
patch = 59773, 194
patch = 59776, 192
3- For XMSNETX v3.22 (60307 7-31-91 10:52a) place the following anywhere in the
net.cfg or shell.cfg file:
patch = 56934, 48
patch = 56937, 46
PREFERRED SERVER TIMEOUT SHELL CONFIGURATION UPDATE
FOR NETX V3.22 SHELLS
Problem addressed:
This update fixes a problem when using the PREFERRED SERVER option where the
timeout value was being incorrectly adjusted.
This fix changes the transport time. In the case where a LAN driver might
return a false transport time of zero tics, the v3.22 NETX shells would
believe this. These updated options in the shell.cfg add a 10 tic buffer
zone to the transport time.
Installation:
1- For NETX v3.22 (51201 7-31-91 10:47a) place the following anywhere in the
net.cfg or shell.cfg file:
patch = 48576, 131
patch = 48577, 193
patch = 48578, 10
2- For XMSNETX v3.22 (60307 7-31-91 10:52a) place the following anywhere in
the net.cfg or shell.cfg file:
patch = 56094, 131
patch = 56095, 193
patch = 56096, 10
3- For EMSNETX v3.22 (63838 7-31-91 10:49a) place the following anywhere in
the net.cfg or shell.cfg file:
patch = 58933, 131
patch = 58934, 193
